How to Use the Flashcards
The main learning activities in this program are digital flashcards–this how to use them.
Note: Step 1 will change based on the activity you are doing. In the example below (scroll down) you’re looking at the Thai letter and then speaking its name. Other activities will be different. For example, it may say “listen and write the letter you hear.” In any case, the process of using the cards will be the same.
Walk through the instructions below and practice using the cards.
- Look at the letter on the flashcard and pronounce its name from memory.
- Click on the card to flip it (or tap on it if using a mobile device). Try flipping the card over now.
- On the back side of the card, click on the red “play audio” button to play the audio and check your answer. Try playing the audio now.
- Look to the left of the “got it right” button. Note that it says 1/7. That means you are on card 1 of 7 cards (we will come back to this later).
- When you get an answer right, click the “got it right” button. When you get an answer wrong, click the “got it wrong” button. When you click either of those two buttons, the card you were looking at will slide away, and the next card in the deck will automatically appear. Go through the deck of cards. Click “got it right” on 3 of the cards and “got it wrong” on 4 of the cards.
- After you go through the full deck of cards, click the “shuffle” button. When you click the “shuffle” button, the cards you got right will be removed from the deck. The remaining cards will be shuffled and ready for you to start the process again. Look to the left of the “got it right“ button again. If you clicked “got it right” on 3 of the cards, you will now see 1/4 (not 1/7). That’s because the 3 cards you got right have been removed from the deck.
- Repeat the process until all of the cards have been removed from the deck (which means you have gotten them all right). Then click the “reset” button. When you click the “reset” button, all cards will be returned to the deck, and you can start the process again. Click the “reset” button and you will now see 1/7 again, as all of the cards have been added back onto the deck.
